IMAG[E] IN A[C]TION - a Benefit for the Oswego Players
Sunday, October 21, 2012, 03:00pm - 05:00pm

Accomplished Artists to Perform Benefit for Oswego Players

A ballerina and a pianist team up to offer a program of dance at the Frances Marion Brown Theatre,
part of the Fort Ontario complex, on Sunday, October 21, at 4 PM.

Ligia Ravenna Pinheiro, a prize winning classical dancer, former professor of dance and dance history
at Wittenberg University, and Juan F. La Manna, pianist and conductor at SUNY Oswego, will offer
what promises to be a delightful, interesting, and diverse program.

“The idea for this concert started a while back, with a performance of Brahms' “Liebeslieder Waltzes”
in Germany” said Pinheiro recently, adding “it was a wonderful collaboration as we discussed many
aspects of the production together.” That project led to another, the “Suite Baroque,” reflecting her
interest in Baroque Dance. The Sunday program spans two hundred years of dance, from the Baroque
to the turn of the twentieth century, including a section on Classical Ballet and one on the “Pas
d'Action,” the style of ballet popular at the beginning of the 19th century.

“It is a great treat for me as a pianist,” said La Manna, “to be able to play for a wonderful dancer and to
be able to play great music.” The program will feature selections from Handel's “Water Music,” as well
as Schubert's Impromptus Op. 90, and pieces by Faure, Debussy, and Brahms. And, he added “ it is a
great cause to support, as our very own Oswego Players are a wonderful theater group, delighting many
people for many years.”

This concert will also feature a multi-media presentation of lithographs, drawings, paintings and
photographs depicting dancers of the various time periods performed.
