Now in its third year, the My Hometown Project continues to provide public space for the display of artwork by students in the City of Oswego’s Public School District. The Art Department and Tyler Art Gallery will host the “3rd Annual My Hometown Visual Art Exhibition.” Opening May 31st with an artist reception from 4:30-6:30 pm, this year’s exhibition features over 450 works of art by K-12 students studying in the Oswego School District. Whether through drawing, painting, sculpting, or mixed media; whatever the approach, the project seeks to display this work and use it to showcase the City of Oswego as a vibrant and creative community. The work on display was selected by the project director, Cynthia Clabough of the SUNY Oswego Art Department, through a series of visits to each of the seven schools in the district throughout the 2018-2019 academic year. All selections are photographed and reproduced as high-quality prints and readied for exhibition by students in the Graphic Design program at SUNY Oswego. As part of the overall project, works in the exhibition go through a jurying process that selects 40-50 pieces for display on banners around the City of Oswego from April through November of 2020. This year’s jurors include Oswego High School alumna, Traci Terpening (Class of 1984), local artist Mary Pierce, and SUNY Oswego professor Ritu Radhakrishnan. Up through June 15th, gallery hours are Wednesday and Thursday from 2-5 pm, & Saturdays from 12noon to 4 pm. This exhibition is free and open to the public. For additional information about this exhibition call the Art Department at (315) 312-2111. For persons with disabilities needing assistance to attend this exhibition, please call in advance. The event is co-sponsored by Tyler Art Gallery and the SUNY Oswego Art Department. The My Hometown Project is made possible by funding from the Robert & Diana Borman Family Foundation, Richard S. Shineman Foundation as well as support from the City of Oswego, and the Oswego City School District. More information about the project can be found online at myhometownproject.org.
