
The Oswego State baseball team continued its hot start in conference play with another doubleheader sweep, this time of host New Paltz on Saturday afternoon at Cantine Field. With the pair of victories, the Lakers are 15-4 on the year and a perfect 8-0 in conference action while the Hawks fall to 3-12, 0-5.
Oswego and New Paltz will square off in the final game of the three-game, regular-season series at 12 p.m. on Sunday at the same facility.
GAME ONE – OSWEGO 12, NEW PALTZ 2:
Brendyn Karinchak earned his fourth win of the year with a six-inning performance that saw the senior scatter five hits, allow no runs and strike out seven Hawks' hitters. Cody LaFlamme and Andy Stuartcombined to finish the last three innings, with neither allowing an earned run while fanning five batters total.
At the plate, five different Lakers ended with a multiple-hit game, including Robert Donnelly's Oswego-leading 3-for-3 performance. The freshman scored twice, registered a double and stole a base. The other four multiple-hit achievers were Wes Randall, Eric Hamilton, Myles Kutscher and Jordan Giller, all collecting two apiece.
Chipping in RBI in the contest were Dan Saccocio, Randall, Hamilton, Kutscher and Zach Whelan, all with one each.
GAME TWO – OSWEGO 10, NEW PALTZ 3:
Miles Kelly took the mound and matched Karinchak's win-loss record on the year, moving to 4-1 during six innings on the hill. The junior gave up just three runs, only two of which were earned, while striking out six batters. Mickey Putillo took over on the rubber for the final inning and did not surrender a hit while striking out one Hawk.
Giller led the way at the dish in the second contest, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI. The first baseman smacked a double and a triple in the game and also crossed the plate once.
Kyle Simmons joined Hamilton and Saccocio for those finishing with two hits and one RBI. Also pitching in two hits was Kutscher, while him and Hamilton led the squad with three runs scored apiece.
