Arty Day Camp Regi stration Opens!
Registrat ions are open for CNY Arts Center’s 5th annual Arty Day Camp running July 1 1-August 19 from 9am to 4pm at two locations. The six week program for 6-16 year olds will offer visual and culinary arts at the downtown Art Shop and Studio, at 47 S. First St in Fulton. Theatre camp will be held onstage at the Arts Center located at 11 River Glen Dr. on the Cayuga College Fulton c ampus. New this year Arty Camp is offering early drop off at 7:30 am and la te pick-up at 5pm for an extra fee. Free lunch and afternoon group ar t projects from noon to 2pm will be open to any child in the county.
Students receive morning instruction, fr om 9am to noon, studying a variety of art mediums. “3D Altered Art,” Upcycl ing,
allows students to take the o rdinary and make something extraordinary as they create works of art. “Imit ating the Masters” will highlight a different Art Master each day. Af ter learning about the Master children will create art inspired by that Art Master. Paper Pizazz students will make their own paper to create art. Stu dents in Travel the World will discover then create inspired art from other cultures. “Medium This, Medium that” will expose children to various mediums used in art. ARTy-D2's Star Wars Art will tap into the force to experience entertaining art. “From Written Word to Inspired Art” students will create art based on famous books and movies, three of which c ome to theatres this summer. Animal Art will be inspired by the various cre atures and the wonderful patterns found in the animal kingdom.
Popular Culinary classes are scheduled for Tue sdays from 10am to noon. Themes for edible art will reflect morning class t hemes and students will take home their culinary projects each week. Culina ry classes are included for any child attending the week long session, or i s available as a stand-alone class for a separate fee.
Late afternoon specialized art instruction from 2-4pm is just as enticing with students spending the week immersed in a sp ecific art medium. Video Production students will create a 1920s video by h elping in all stages from story development, characters, set, and acting.&n bsp; Wood-working students will creatively build with wood and learn the st eps to producing quality wooden art. Nature Landscape will guide students t o create a living landscape using all natural materials. Entrepreneurship w ill take the students from product to business and learn how to sell that p roduct. Blue Jeans & Fleece will be used to create art from city-scapes to pocket boards to floor rugs. Stained Glass Class will incorporate stained glass or teach students to color glass to create lasting keepsakes .
Aerospace artist, Fulton native, Don Gillespie returns for one week this summer, August 1-5, to share his t echnique for creating seascapes and lunar environments. Students will gain first-hand knowledge and instruction from this Master artist in residence.< /span>
This year’s theater camp is offeri ng two full productions in two three week sessions. Campers in Session One, July 11-29, will create characters, costumes, sets and all aspects of I Wi sh, a Fairy’s Fairy tale about Cinderella’s sassy Fairy Godmother. The play will be showcased free to the public July 29t h onstage at the Arts Center.
August 1-19, Session Two of theatre camp will pre sent The Jungle Book. Campers will design costumes, set, and props and deve lop characters for the beloved story while learning stagecraft, creative mo vement and more. The Jungle Book will be presented to the public for free A ugust 19th onsta ge at the Arts Center.
CNY Arts Ce nter is designated as a Summer Meal Site to offer free lunches to community children 18 and under during the week of ARTY Day Camp. Children who atten d the lunch are included in afternoon art projects at no charge. Art projec t supplies are typically provided by a mini-grant from the Oswego City-Coun ty Youth Bureau and the New York State Office of Children and Family Servic es.
Making scholarships available
to children to offset the cost of camp is very important to CNY Arts Center
with a goal of one in four children receiving at least partial assistance.
Scholarships are made possible with funds from the New York Decentralizati
on Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts wit
h the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature a
nd administered by CNY Arts. Additional scholarship funds are raised
through the Don Gillespie Scholarship fund, and The John Ben Snow Foundatio
