The H. Lee White Maritime Museum will host a replica Viking
long-ship, the Draken Harald Hårfagre, Saturday and Sunday, August 27 and 2
8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The ship will be docked at the north end of the We
st First Street pier in Oswego. The Draken Harald Hårfagre will be open for tours from10 a.m. to 6 p.m
. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 27 and 28. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 f
or 5- to 18-year-olds. Admission is free for children under age five. In ad
dition, the Maritime Museum, 1 W. First St. Pier, will offer reduced admiss
ion of $4. "The captain and crew of the Draken Harald Hårfagre

d create new ones with all the wonderful communities we have visited throug

he Draken Harald Hårfagre is a Viking long-ship built in the Nordic style o
f over-lapping planks and is a reconstruction of the "great ships" that wer
e referred to in Norse sagas.The ship left her homeport in Haugesund,
Norway in April 2016 and sailed across the North Atlantic with a mission t
o explore and relive one of the most mythological sea voyages – the first t
ransatlantic crossing -- and the Viking discovery of the New World, more th
an a thousand years ago.
"Throughout our project we have striven to create intercultural meeting
s and inspire people to go beyond the horizon in a modern Viking saga," sai
d Luke Snyder, expedition coordinator. "Along the traditional route, the sh
ip has passed Viking settlements and new archaeological findings."
