Election Day Dinner At United Baptist Church of Scriba to benefit “Blessings in a Backpack”
The second Tuesday of November not only brings Election D ay but also the return of the Election Day Dinner at The United Baptist Chu rch of Scriba. On November 8th the church will be featuring their fam ous ham and escalloped potato dinner that has become a popular tradition fo r both the church and the community. In addition to the above, the dinner will include butternut squash, homemade applesauce, Harvard beet s, cabbage salad, various jello salads and rolls. Plenty of homemade pies will be on hand for dessert.
We will start serving at 4:00 p.m. and go to 6:30 p.m. Cost is $8.00 for Adults, $4.00 for ages 6-12, a nd 5 and younger will eat for free.
For those looking forward to dinner in the comfort of your own home, take outs are available. G ive us a call before 3:00 p.m. at 343-8542 and we’ll have the meals ready w hen you get there.
In the past, the church held its Election Day Din ner to help supplement its support of various outreaches in the community a nd around the world. Support for multiple orphanages in Kenya, India and Afghanistan is provided through the efforts of the Foundation Stone Min istries. Operation Christmas Child is another program that is currently mov ing forward in an effort to supply needy children with school supplies, hyg iene items and other necessities. The church and its members al so support local endeavors such as the Pregnancy Care Center in Oswego, the Scriba Christmas Project and our own Food Pantry.
This year, 100% o f the proceeds will go to the “Blessings in a Backpack” program supplying 7 5 hungry kids in the Mexico School District with food 38 weekends during th e school year. Better test scores, improved reading skills, positive behavior, improved health and increased attendance have all been attributed to the success of this program.
We are located at 5111 State Route 104 east (4 miles east of Oswego, just west of Co Rte. 29, right next door to Dahl’s Diner.)
