DESCRIPTION:\nThe Oswego Public Library will host a book reading and signing on Saturda
y, Nov. 19, 2016 from 1-3 pm.\nLocal author, Linda Jeanne Germain, will rea
d her children’s book entitled “Kirby’s Krazy Karrot Kaper (For the Love of
Maggie).” Copies of the book will be available for signing and purchase.
Part of the proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the Oswego Public
Library.\nGermain’s first children’s book bridges the gap between her love
of reading, writing, art, Oswego, and her four adorable guinea pigs. Her
passion for all these things has helped her weave an exciting tale about he
r fluffy, funny guinea pig named Kirby. Kirby has several exciting adventu
res around the City of Oswego while looking for his sister, Maggie, who is
lost while searching for carrots. Kirby travels by way of a superfast, car
rot skateboard and visits some of Oswego’s most famous landmarks, including
, Fort Ontario, Charles E. Gallagher Pool, Oswego Public Library, Oswego Sp
eedway, Rudy’s Lakeside Drive-in, SUNY Oswego, and Breitbeck Park of Harbor
fest fame. A handful of Oswego High School Marching Buccaneers make an app
earance, also.\n“The writing and illustrating of this book was a lot of fun
,” stated Germain. “I have always wanted to write and illustrate a childre
n’s book. The question always was what would it be about. When I got my g
uinea pigs over a year ago, the answer became very clear because they are s
o funny and full of personality. A little adventure around their hometown
of Oswego seemed in order. Even though Kirby is the main character, Maggie,
Toby, and Mollie are very important to the story, as well. They bring hom
e the idea of family and simple pleasures that I think Oswego is famous for

an adult. I think the ultimate message of the book will resonate with both
children and adults who love Oswego. And what better place to have the bo
ok signing than the library which has been a cornerstone of this community
for many years thanks to the efforts of Gerritt Smith and the Oswego commun
ity in general.”\nGermain is also the author of another popular book about
Oswego called “A Common View – With Affection, Hope, and Humor – Reflection
s on the Port City of Central New York.” She has been a freelance writer f
or the past 10 years and her writing has appeared in The Post-Standard, Osw
ego County Business Magazine, The Palladium-Times, and The Catholic Sun.\n
