SUMMARY:Default - History on Tap Talk
LOCATION:G. S. Steamers
URL;VALUE=URI:https://iloveoswego.com/55357/history-on-tap-talk.html?tmpl=component
DESCRIPTION:<p><img src="https://iheartoswego.com/images/jevents/2024/historyontapstmar
 ys.jpg" alt="historyontapstmarys" width="640" height="480" /></p><p>History
on Tap talk and discussion on July 2 at 7pm will be about the surprisingly
dramatic story of the building St. Mary’s Church in Oswego.</p><p>In the f
all of 2022 a treasure trove of important documents were discovered in St M
ary’s archives. These include letters from the architect John T. Comès, let
ters from the German woodcarver August Schmidt Jr., as well as minutes from
trustee meetings and dozens of newspaper clippings from the period. Althou
gh histories of the parish have been written previous to this that touch up
on building the church, none of them delve with any detail into the drama a
nd the struggle of bringing it to life.</p><p>The presentation will be made
by Jim Schneider who will draw upon items from St Mary’s archives as well
as from his research.</p><p>History on Tap is free and open to the public.
July 2 at 7 pm in the Riverfront Room at G.S. Steamers, in the Clarion Hote
l, 70 East First St.</p><p>People are encouraged to have dinner or drinks a
t Steamers since the Broadway Hospitality Group donates use of the room to
 the history collaborative hosts.</p> <a href="https://iloveoswego.com/55357
