go Department of Technology and the Department of Art and Design. \n\nThere
will be two main events presented: a ceramic Pit-Firing and an Iron-Pour.
\n\nPit-firing is the oldest form of firing pottery and ceramics. Essential
ly unfired clay pots and sculpture are placed into a pit in the ground. The
n, a bonfire is created over it and sustained throughout the day. The fire
vitrifies the ceramics and creates interesting and unpredictable surface de
coration.\n\nFor the Iron-Pour, recycled scrap iron is heated to almost 3,0
00 degrees until it is liquefied. Then, the liquid iron is poured into mold
s to create new and original sculptures and designs. \n\nScratch plates, a
means to easily create iron plaques, will be available for the anyone to ha
ve their own idea cast in iron. Additionally, the Office of Sustainability
will present a maple-sugar activity. \n\nThe campus community is invited t
o come, watch, make something and get a sweet treat.\n\nThis event is free
and open to all. The Festival of Fire will take place in the Tyler Hall Pit
, which is adjacent to Tyler Hall on campus. \n\n This event was imported f
