This Youth Fly Fishing Program i s a series of four classes that will provide youth with the basic skills an d understanding of fly fishing. The classes will begin with an introduction to the sport along with salmon and trout natural history lessons. Youth wi ll learn how to assemble and cast a fly rod, tell the difference between we t and dry flies along with insect identification, and how to tie simple fli es. The series includes at least two fishing excursions in Oswego County.
Fishing rain date: June 23.
The programs in May will be held at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County's office in Mexico, New York . The fishing excursions in June will be held in northern Oswego County.
The Youth Fly Fishing Program is open to youth 11 years of age and olde r. Because this program is based on the philosophy, “Learn by Doing,” space is limited for this program.
Participating youth do not need to own fly fishing equipment. All gear and supplies necessary for the fishing cou rse will be provided.
Fee: $30 (link o pens registration site), includes all gear and necessary supplies.
