Write a commentDennis Gerald “Gary” Richardson, 76, of Oswego, passed away on May 16, 2026.
He was born in Oswego to the late Fay Willard & Anna Helen (McCarthy) Richardson.
Gary served in the U.S. Navy. He served in combat duty during Vietnam. Upon leaving the Navy, he joined the Oswego City Fire Department, where he worked from 1974 to 2004. He also worked on the Oswego Speedway Safety Crew from 1982 to 2011. Gary was an avid sports fan and golfer. He loved serving the community and drove a bus for Centro and the Oswego City School District.
He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Mary (Cherchio) Richardson, sons Jeff (Michele) and Greg Richardson, grandchildren Christopher Dennis, Ian, Aidan, and Alex Cavanaugh, Ben, Ryan, Adam, and Paisley Richardson, and Emma Ciervo. Gary is also survived by a brother, Fay Willard (Eileen) Richardson II.
Family and friends are invited to call from 3-6 pm on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Christ the Good Shepherd, 134 East 5th St., Oswego. Burial will be held at St. Peter Cemetery. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
