With the Clark's residency, this now fills the newly renovated historic apartment building to capacity the by the Nov. 1 deadline. The building is architecturally significant because of its distinctive characteristics of later 19th century industrial architecture. Equally impressive, the lease signing coincides with the couple's 53rd wedding anniversary.

Seaway Lofts Apartments, 472 W. First St., Oswego, immediately across from the Varick Dam and Oswego River, is proud to announce the newly renovated historic building is full to capacity, meeting its Nov. 1, 2013 deadline.
Bob and Susan Kay Clark recently accepted the keys from property manager, Beverly Munski, at the entrance of this smoke-free building on their 53rd wedding anniversary.
"What an absolute gift to my husband, and both of us really, this is our 53rd anniversary," Susan Kay said. "I consider it a wedding present to him to have freedom of mobility to do anything he wants to do now that we have a handicapped accessible unit."
Susan Kay explained that since her husband's quadruple bi-pass surgery and stroke in 2012, he has basically been homebound due to the 10 steps of their former home making it difficult to get out and about.
"This means everything to the both of us," she added. "I've been his caretaker and it opens up the world to us both, really!"
Seaway Lofts is a $6.9 million project that involved the redevelopment, (rehabilitation and reuse) of the former Seaway Supply Building into affordable workforce housing. This is one of only a few industrial buildings on the riverfront. The project highlights the historical value of the building while also encompassing the latest energy-efficient construction techniques. It was a four-story vacant industrial building turned into 20 one-bedroom and six two-bedroom apartments with amenities the include air conditioning, dishwasher, community room, computer lab, outdoor play structure, common laundry facility and tenant storage. There are six units built to address the needs of their handicapped clients; four are accessible and two are for audio/visual impaired.
Sutton Companies partnered with Edgemere Development to obtain financing and tax credits from New York State Homes and Community Renewal for rehabilitating the property. Developers also include Rich Gardner Construction. Renovations complied with historic tax credit requirements. The Seaway Lofts project in Oswego received $1.5 million from the state Housing Trust Fund/HOME and Federal Tax Programs. In addition to using state funds, financing from the city of Oswego, Oswego County and the Federal Home Loan Bank was used.
