Navigating the Calendar

We get it! There's a lot to see here. That's why we've added a number of ways for you to find what you're looking for... and to browse smarter.

  • To view event listings by town or city, use the Location Filter to the right.
  • Browse by event type by clicking on the category you'd like to see more of; for example, clicking on "Free" will pull up all calendar entries that you do not have to pay to participate in.
  • You can also type in keywords into the calendar's search bar, such as "yoga" or "bingo."

The Reading League
Thursday, July 14, 2016, 05:00pm - 07:30pm

ReadingLeague

The title of this event is: UNIFYING OUR PERSPECTIVES ON DYSLEXIA: ADVOCACY AND PARTNERSHIPS, and it will be facilitated by Jorene Cook - Reading League President, Instructional Coach for Auburn School District, mother of 6th grade boy with dyslexia, and Ed.D. Candidate in Curriculum, Teaching, Leading & Learning at Northeastern University.

This event is being hosted by Oswego High School.

Reading League members come from a large CNY area, so each event is located in a different region to accommodate the driving distances fairly. A bonus to holding our summer event in Oswego is that you can arrive early and treat yourself to food and drink at Rudy's Lakeside Drive-In Diner (http://rudyshot.com/) with a gorgeous view of the lake! This is a classic and delicious summer tradition!

VERY EXCITING is that our event is a "precursor" to an event being held on August 12 by the Literacy Coalition of Oswego County (LCOC). LCOC will be hosting renowned cognitive scientist and author Daniel Willingham as their keynote speaker at this event. Perhaps you've read some of his articles in American Educator..."Ask the Cognitive Scientist." His latest book, Raising Kids Who Read, What Parents and Teachers Can Do, will be discussed at OUR event as a way of getting prepared and excited (order it today for your knowledge library and treat yourself to a great summer read)! We will send a separate email to Reading League members with the LCOC Announcement of their event, giving you more details in case you are interested in attending that one as well.

Now, back to our July 14 and its highly interactive agenda...PLEASE SHARE this with friends, family, neighbors, associates, colleagues, and anyone else who knows a student or parent dealing with our topic. Please share this event on social media and verbally.

Finally...

Thank you to all who attended our May 12 event. Through donations and raffle monies, we raised $157, which helped to defray the costs of printing and some legal filing fees with New York State. We are very grateful for this support.  We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and all donations are tax deductible. At all events, voluntary donations of a dollar or two are gladly accepted. It is our hope to raise $250 at the next event to purchase a scanner/fax machine.

And THANK YOU - for being a supporter or member of The Reading League.
