Oswego Stamp Club Ceremony: On Saturday, July 2, come to Fort Ontario State Historic Site on East Fourth Street in Oswego from noon to 3 p.m. for a bicentennial postal commemoration. The Oswego Stamp Club marks the bicentennial with an official postal imprint ceremony followed by a reception. For more information, e-mail jamesmcadam334@gmail.com.
Each cacheted cover, or envelope, will be affixed with a stamp depicting either an American flag or the New Orleans’ War of 1812 commemoration.
Samples will be on display throughout the stamp cancellation ceremony and attendees can choose the cacheted cover and stamp they would like to have cancelled.
There is a charge of $2 for each piece or $5 for the set of three.
This is one of the many events the Oswego Stamp Club has been involved with. The group has created cachets to commemorate Oswego Town resident Dr. Mary Walker, the Kingsford Bell in Breitbeck Park in Oswego, and Oswego’s Harborfest.
The club was started during the winter of 1947 to 1948 to serve the community and assist people with an interest in stamp collecting.
In addition to pictorial stamp cancellation events, the group, led by club president Leigh LeClair, also provides guidance about the various methods of collecting and exhibiting.
