Christmas in Mexico will return this year for their 18th Annual event, Saturday, December 4th. This event is presented by The Greater Mexico Chamber of Commerce.
The Methodist Church and Presbyterian Church, both on Church St, will have crafters, baked goods, food and drinks for sale, and raffles! The Catholic Church on Main St also returns with crafts, raffles, and baked goods. These run 9am - 3pm. We return with vendors at both the High School and the Elementary School. FACE MASKS are required at both schools.
The elementary school will also host the Dollars for Scholars raffle baskets there this year. MACS Faculty Association will have a table with treats, and MACS PTO will have a table as well. These are at the Elementary school this year.
MACS Transportation Department returns, at the Elementary school this year, with the stuff-a-bus benefit. You donate a NEW UNWRAPPED toy or clothing donation to their bus and get a chance to win a raffle prize. ALL donations will be distributed to a student in the MACS district. Donations accepted for children ages 4-18. The events at the schools will run 9-3.
Many businesses in town will have open houses and offer price specials to those who stop in.
We have Christmas in Mexico reusable shopping bags for sale again this year. They are $2 each and available at the local Church bazaars and the Elementary and High Schools for your shopping convenience.
The Oswego Valley Train Association has their impressive train display at Washington Hall on Main St. They are there Saturday 9-6 and Sunday 9-3.
Starr Clark Tin Shop & Underground Railroad Museum, on Main Street, will be open 9-5 with free refreshments, raffles, and Tinsmith demonstrations.
Mexico Liquors will host a wine tasting event 9am - 5pm.
Oswego County FCU has Santa coming! Events will take place there for kids 10-2. You can take photos with Santa 10:30-1:30, and they have a coloring contest for kids 10 and under. The contest page can be picked up in the Mexico branch now, color them and they are due back to the Credit Union by Friday December 3rd. Santa will announce the winner at 1:30 on December 4th at the Credit Union.
Cornell Cooperative Extension will host their Farmers Market with goods from local growers at the VFW on Route 3 North. Event runs 9am - 3pm.
The Mexico Public Library will be open 10am - 2pm. Take home and make gingerbread craft kits for $3 each. Pick up on Saturday, first come - first served. They will also have cider, cookies and door prizes. There will be a station with gently used books and wrapping paper. Kids can choose a book for parents, siblings, etc and wrap it as a Christmas gift. There is also art from grades K-12 students displayed all thru the library.
A bake sale will be presented outside at Beauti & the Beard on Main St. Proceeds will benefit the Miss Teen Rodeo NY program. Olaf, Elsa, Onna and Sven will be there and you are welcome to take photos with them.
Damiano’s Eatery on Main St will offer cookie decorating for the kids from 3pm - 5pm.
Daddy Ed’s Restaurant will be offering free cookies and hot cocoa throughout the day.
This year the D-Bus has been hired to provide you FREE transportation at our event. From 10-3 they will pick-up and drop-off at our shuttle stops on a continuous loop. Stops include The Elementary School, Oswego County Federal Credit Union, VFW, Subway, High School/Catholic Church area on Main St., MACS Middle School (free parking is available there), Fur-st Choice Pet Supply, Daddy Ed’s Restaurant, Stefano’s Pizzeria, Presbyterian Church, Molly John’s Farm, Washington Hall/Tin Shop area on Main Street. Make a plan to conveniently park and ride.
CNY Carriage Company has also been hired to provide you FREE Horse-drawn Carriage rides in the village. This runs 10-3. The pick-up area is in front of Key Bank on Main Street.
Brochures regarding the day can be found throughout the village and where there are vendors. In the brochure you can find all you need to know for our Stop-to-Stamp contest. If you get stamps from locally participating businesses, you can drop your entry in the box at the Village Gazebo by 3pm. At 3:30pm, at the Gazebo on Main St, winners of donated gifts will be announced.
Our brochures also extend credit to those who have contributed to help fund this event. Be sure to grab a brochure, and give a shout-out to our sponsors and advertisers that are displayed in the brochure.
Prior to the parade, Believers Chapel North will offer free hot cocoa near the Fire Hall entrance on Main St.
At 5 pm our LIGHTED PARADE begins near the Elementary School on Academy St and ends at the MVFD. We will have lighted Fire Trucks, floats and Marching units, as well as Santa and Mrs. Claus transported by carriage. There is a $100 prize in 3 separate categories: best marching unit, best float, and most Christmas Spirit.Grab your friends/family or organization and enter the parade!
(This year the Christmas tree of the season will be already lit. Lighting is Saturday, November 27th at the Village Gazebo Park, Main St. The festivities begin at 4 pm that day and are brought to you by the Village of Mexico.)
Immediately following the lighted parade, please join us inside the MVFD fire hall. Santa and Mrs Claus will be available to meet with the children. Feel free to bring your camera for photos. Refreshments will be donated and served by the MACS Cheerleading team.
We are also currently running 2 decorating contests. There is a RESIDENTIAL contest and a BUSINESS contest. Entries are a single picture entered as a comment in each contest announcement on our Facebook page. Votes are counted by the LIKES on your picture. Voting closes Saturday December 11th at 11:59 pm.
The contests are open to all in the MACS school district. Prizes are a $100, $50 or $25 gift certificate to any Chamber Business. Check us out on Facebook for all of the contests information.
