Kicking off the fifth anniversary theatre season, CNY Arts Center at 11 River Glen Dr in Fulton announces auditions for the popular musical Godspell to be held Saturday, December 3 from 3:30-6pm and Monday, December 5 from 6-8 pm.
The production signals a return to the Arts Center’s first musical presented onstage in August, 2012 featuring Nickolas Pike as Jesus and Richard Mosher as Judas. Five full seasons have followed with plays and musicals such as Yes, Virginia, The Musical, Willy Wonka, Jr, Wizard of Oz, Narnia, Seussical, Jr, Oliver, and more along with several Shakespeare productions, and most recently, the classic Harvey.
The musical will be directed by Nancy Fox and Ben Borenstein as Music Director. Fox will be celebrating her 10th anniversary with the beloved Godspell having first directed it, 2007, at Port City Theatre in Oswego. “This wonderful musical based on the Gospel of Matthew has a natural attraction for actors and audiences alike with playful games and stories that convey the message in Act One, then brings the climax in the familiar story to a dramatic end in Act Two,” said Fox. “It is a compelling piece of theatre that most actors and directors enjoy doing more than once in a career. It is a bonding experience in the truest sense of the word when lifetime relationships are formed. The audience is easily captivated by the real transformations taking place onstage."
Looking for a cast of 12, actors are asked to prepare 32 bars of a Broadway song for auditions. Accompanist will be provided for auditions. First cast meeting will be Friday, December 9 from 6-8 pm. Music rehearsals will take place once a week in December, then increase in January leading up to opening February 17.
The production will open Friday, February 17 and run through Sunday, February 26. Because of potential weather issues, matinees have been planned for Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 19 & 26 plus the traditional Friday and Saturday evenings, February 17, 18 and 24. In the event of bad weather cancellations, a performance will be added Saturday evening, February 25.
