On January 15, the Faith Formation students of the Churches of St. Joseph and St. Stephen the King in Oswego gave up their day off to host a Winter Carnival that provided many blessings to community members.

The annual event, held in St. Joseph’s parish center, collected an abundance of hats, gloves, mittens, boots and coats for local residents in need of these items. Admission was at least one new or gently used piece of winter clothing or a monetary donation.

Dozens of children and their families flocked to the indoor carnival, where they played games of chance, received colorful face paintings, and took turns having fun in a bounce house. Pizza, snacks and drinks were served free of charge.

Youth from the church’s faith formation classes organized the event, staffed the booths and collected the clothes as part of their community service project weekend. The collected items went to those in need at Fitzhugh Park and Kingsford Park Elementary Schools. In this Year of the Family, the young church members sponsored the event to promote a way for families to come together to both serve and have a good time!
