A free copy of the 2019 Maple Weekends brochure listing sugarhouses, the International Maple Museum Centre 5th Annual Sap Run-Walk, and pancake breakfasts sites in Jefferson, Lewis, Oneida and Oswego counties is now available at Cornell Cooperative Extension offices in Lowville, Mexico, Oriskany, and Watertown, N.Y, or by mail for a self-addressed, stamped, letter-size envelope sent to regional Maple Weekend coordinator Steve Rogers, Bear Creek Farm, 5728 US Route 11, Adams, NY 13605.
The 2019 Maple Weekends are set for March 23-24 and March 30-31 with open house events at sugarmakers statewide from 10 am to 4 pm. Most of the 17 maple producers located across the four-county upstate region and at the International Maple Museum Centre in Croghan, N.Y., are open all four days, however, check the brochure listings for those open only on Saturdays or just one weekend. Driving directions are posted on the New York State Maple Weekends website at www.mapleweekend.com.
Maple Weekend events provide the public with the opportunity to experience first-hand how real maple syrup and maple confections are made. A wide variety of pure maple products are available for tasting and purchase.
Sugarmakers welcome families and visitors of all ages to their farms and forests with a variety of activities from sap boiling demonstrations and sugarbush tours to tasting, children’s activities, and pancake breakfasts. Visitors are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for winter season and sugarbush tours.
Community-based events include the 5th Annual 5k Sap Run and 3k Walk and Pancake Breakfast in Mannsville, NY, on Saturday, March 30, 2019. To register for the Run-Walk, contact 315-222-8126 or see www.facebook.com/mapleweekend/walk.
