As the deadline for submitting the 2020 form enters its final week Oswego County has teamed with Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) to assist and encourage you to register for the 2020 Census prior to the September 30th deadline.

During this final week representatives from OCO and census enumerators will be available at the September 24th Oswego Farmers Market, West First Street from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and the September 26th Fulton Famers Market at Canalview Park, South 2nd Street, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon. Community members can get answers to questions they may have about the 2020 census and receive assistance in filling out and submitting the census form online while they are there. There will also be a virtual Open House on September 29th from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. To join the virtual Open House click on the following link from a tablet, smartphone or computer, https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/896455893. “There’s a lot at stake in Oswego County,” said James Weatherup, Chairman of the Oswego County Legislature. “The risk of some populations being undercounted could result in a loss of funding for programs that our communities, our friends and our neighbors rely on.”

Data from the 2020 census determines how federal funding is distributed to states and communities for the next 10 years. Oswego County programs and services that will be directly impacted by the census response include, but are not limited to:

  • Medicare and Medicaid
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Head Start Program
  • Highway Construction & Repairs
  • School Meals and Funding
  • Public Transportation
  • Community Development Block Grants
  • College Financial Aid
  • Housing Assistance
