2025 Is In Your Hands

2025 Is In Your Hands

It is another new year, and I have plans.

Do you? There is still time if you don’t. After all, making yourself a better person or learning something new is never in need of a schedule. But the first of the year, for some reason, makes us ponder the things of the past year and hope for the things of the next year. We recognize our successes and our failures over the past year, the gains and the losses, the ups and the downs. We wonder if things could have been done differently for a better outcome on some and we thank God for the things that brought us joy. Then we plan the future… 2025.

Some want to make themselves a better person. It is the month of weight loss programs and fitness programs. Local author of Naked, SDG says, “We don’t necessarily have to be our best self but maybe our favorite self.”  With that in mind, I think a better goal this year in this category should be not to gain any weight rather than to lose weight. Maybe I won’t park so close to the door when I go somewhere so I can walk a little farther. I think I will try something new and healthy if I happen to bump into it at a restaurant. And occasionally, I think I might try a new recipe with whole foods for my family dinner. Yeah, I can do that.

Pastor Steve Nehlsen of Fulton Alliance Church discussed the value of being intentional. He quoted a life coach he had several years ago who said, “An intentional life is a successful life.” He used scripture to back this up. If the disciples used this years ago and their lives are still being studied, maybe I ought to consider this. In my spiritual life I intend to spend more time praying for family, friends, and strangers that have needs. I can do that, too.

I was on Facebook the other day when I was shown a meme. Why can’t New Year’s Resolutions be fun? This person decided she would try a fruit she had never eaten before should she come across one. Ooh, that sounds fun. I have not yet decided on my fun one yet, but I am sure it will come to me. I am all about fun. I just might steal that one for myself. Have you seen the fruit section lately at your local grocer?

I hear a lot of talk about economic security from individuals. The intention to save money for a rainy day is always high on the list of priorities for resolutions. I think I am going to try this through the back door by not spending so much on my necessities. Waiting for the sale is a simple way to not spend so much money and perhaps that will encourage me to save more.

And then there is always the learn something new category. Everyone at some point wants to learn to play an instrument like the guitar or piano.  Wouldn’t that be cool? Taking a class is always good whether it is at your local college, online, or a how-to class at the local library. Maybe I could check out a DIY project on Pinterest I might like to try and call it good. My life is busy at times. The point is, everyone can find a way to learn a new skill, develop a talent, or prepare for a job. Just be open to the idea.

The point is that resolutions are something you want or need to do for yourself. Putting a priority on character development, good habits, lifelong learning, spiritual growth, and intentional living, not only benefits you, but benefits those around you- your family, friends, colleagues, and even the strangers that walk near you. Developing yourself makes you a strong force to be reckoned with. It is not only for you, but for everyone. So, make those 2025 goals. Resolve to do the things that make you your most favorite self. And make the intentional choices to remain steadfast in the things you choose. You are a valuable asset and 2025 can’t wait to see you. I can’t either. Happy New Year!
