26th Annual Oswego County Hospice Cup Regatta 'A Great Success, Very Competitive'

The 26th Annual Oswego County Hospice Cup Regatta, hosted by the Oswego Yacht Club, (OYC) was Saturday, June 14, “and was a great success and very competitive,” it was announced by Elena Twiss, executive director, Friends of Hospice in Oswego County (FOHOC).

There were three divisions, and all were very competitive with each division completing three races. The racecourse was east of the Port of Oswego” in 10-14 knots of Northeast winds, said Dan Mather, past OYC commodore and regatta committee member.  

“The overall regatta champion was ‘Blaz’” sailed by Brendon Benson from Fair Haven Yacht Club,” Mather said. “Second overall was ‘Toto’ sailed by Tom Doran of Oswego and in third was Peter Quackenbush from Sodus Bay Yacht Club sailing ‘Moongator’ .

“In the white sail division first was Bob Magon sailing ‘Tack Season’ from Sodus Bay Yacht Club, in second was ‘Tanz’ sailed by Fran Doyle from the Sodus Bay Yacht Club, and in third was Herb Clark on ‘Porto’ from the Selkirk Yacht Club.

“The Spinnaker Division One was won by ‘Blaze’ with two first place finishes, second was ‘Moongator’ with finishes of first, second and third, and third was ‘Crusader’ sailed by Dan Mather of Oswego Yacht Club.

“In Spinnaker Div Two, ‘Toto’ was first with three first place finishes, second was Connor Rahm on ‘Bingo Bango’ from Sodus Bay Yacht Club and in third was the Oswego Yacht Club J/24 ‘Ruffled Feathers’ sailed by Nate Rotunno.”

After racing the Club hosted a Chicken Dinner From Garafolos and raffle drawings all to benefit Friends of Hospice in Oswego County.

            “All proceeds were donated the FOHOC,” Twiss said. “We continue to provide non-medical support for hospice patients in Oswego County and the Camp Waves of Hope bereavement summer camp experience for children who have lost a loved one. In addition, we just introduced our Life Longings program, a new service for terminally ill residents offering support by making comfort improvements, helping with milestone celebrations, or fulfilling ‘bucket list’ requests.
