Navigating the Calendar
We get it! There's a lot to see here. That's why we've added a number of ways for you to find what you're looking for... and to browse smarter.
- To view event listings by town or city, use the Location Filter to the right.
- Browse by event type by clicking on the category you'd like to see more of; for example, clicking on "Free" will pull up all calendar entries that you do not have to pay to participate in.
- You can also type in keywords into the calendar's search bar, such as "yoga" or "bingo."
A family-friendly festival celebrating snow at Rice Creek Field Station! Part of winter Cruisin' the Campus.
11:00 am. Story Hour: Snowflake Bentley. As a child, Wilson Bentley saw beauty where no one else noticed it and drew hundreds of snowflakes by eye. As an adult, he went on to develop the first camera that could photograph a snowflake. Come listen to his story, and then make your own snowflake to take home!
12:00 pm. Snow Person/Snow Animal Building. Make your own snow creation! Every child who participates will receive a goody bag to take home. If snow cover isn't sufficient for building, visitors can make 'snow' figures out of air-hardening clay.
1:00 pm. Presentation: The Science of Snow. This presentation will cover how snow forms, the critical role that snow and ice play in the lives of our local animals and plants, and how these creatures survive winter.
2:00 pm. Mammal Tracks on Snowshoes. We'll see what animals are out and about in the snow! Adult-sized snowshoes are available to participants.
All-day (9:00 am – 3:00 pm).
Catch & Observe Snowflakes. Examine snow using magnifying glasses! See how many shapes you can find. Draw the shapes you see.
Snow crafting. Kid-friendly easy and fun crafts & activities related to snow.
Snowshoeing. Adult-sized snowshoes are available. BYO cross-country skis & snowshoes dawn to dusk.
Winter Bird Citizen Science. Spend a few minutes watching birds. The data you record will contribute to the international Project Feederwatch program from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. A naturalist can help with bird identification.
All programs are open to the public. Tickets for the event are $1, and are available through the campus box office. Tickets can also be purchased at the event.
Please dress for the weather, and note that children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
