"Importance of Collecting Art" - Cuban Art Exhibit

Newton Paul has studied art, art history, collecting, preservation / conservation, and curatorial practices in various mediums from 2009 to present. From 2015, he has spent time traveling to various countries and acquiring artworks from artists, art centers, galleries, and auction houses. These works established the Armand-Paul Family Collection, which he is co-founder, co- manager, and co-curator. Parts of collection have been loaned to various institutions, exhibited, and published in exhibition catalogues. He has curated exhibitions on the Asociacion de Grabadores de Cuba (Association of Engravers of Cuba also known as AGC)(1949 to 1968), which is part of the Armand-Paul Family Collection. This is the largest collection, outside of Cuba, based on the AGC. His most recent accomplishment was co-curating the exhibition Charles White: Influences (April 2 nd to June 11 th , 2022) at Rockland Center for the Arts (West Nyack, NY). He is curating the exhibition on the Asociacion de Grabadores de Cuba (AGC) (1949 to 1968) and Afro-Cuban photography (1890s to 1960s) at the State University of New York at Oswego from September 2022 to October 2022. He will also lecture on the “Importance of collecting art”. Other exhibitions are in process of being established for 2023-2024. Newton holds a Master of Human Services & Counselling, a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration minoring in International Studies from SUNY Oswego. He has been awarded numerous art scholarships from the Barnes Foundation (Philadelphia, PA). He has also conducted educational lectures on collecting, advises artists on the business of art, and provides curatorial advisement to private collectors / institutions.
