History on Tap Talk
Tuesday, July 02, 2024, 07:00pm

historyontapstmarys

History on Tap talk and discussion on July 2 at 7pm will be about the surprisingly dramatic story of the building St. Mary’s Church in Oswego.

In the fall of 2022 a treasure trove of important documents were discovered in St Mary’s archives. These include letters from the architect John T. Comès, letters from the German woodcarver August Schmidt Jr., as well as minutes from trustee meetings and dozens of newspaper clippings from the period. Although histories of the parish have been written previous to this that touch upon building the church, none of them delve with any detail into the drama and the struggle of bringing it to life.

The presentation will be made by Jim Schneider who will draw upon items from St Mary’s archives as well as from his research.

History on Tap is free and open to the public. July 2 at 7 pm in the Riverfront Room at G.S. Steamers, in the Clarion Hotel, 70 East First St.

People are encouraged to have dinner or drinks at Steamers since the Broadway Hospitality Group donates use of the room to the history collaborative hosts.
