Join us for Making It!, an ongoing series featuring visiting artists talking about their work, careers, and their experiences 'making it' in the arts. On April 10th, hear from Nigerian multidisciplinary artist Ken Nwadiogbu.
Ken Nwadiogbu lives and works between London, United Kingdom and Lagos, Nigeria. Initially trained as a civil engineer, Nwadiogbu pivoted to fine art, where he first gained acclaim for his hyperrealistic charcoal drawings. His artistic journey has since evolved into more conceptual works that engage a diverse array of techniques. He now holds an MA from the Royal College of Art, London.
Ken's work is known for addressing critical themes such as identity, displacement, and socio-political control. His unique approach merges intellectual rigor with playful ingenuity, creating visually arresting compositions that challenge viewers to reconsider their perspectives.
Nwadiogbu was awarded The Future Awards Africa (2019) in recognition of his contributions to the Nigerian arts community. Notably, his works have been showcased at prestigious venues such as the Royal Academy of Arts, London, Saatchi Gallery, London, Somerset House, London, and Bishop Museum, Hawaii. He has collaborated with esteemed global brands such as Netflix, Absolut, GANT, and Martell. A significant aspect of his practice is inspiring and encouraging young creatives, empowering the next generation of artists to pursue their dreams.
