MAY 17, 2025: Free, family-friendly, outdoor event, 12-4 p.m., along West 1st Street Pier in Oswego at H. Lee White Maritime Museum.
Live raptor presentations (12-3 pm); historic vessel tours of 1850s replica schooner and steam-powered canal boat Derrick Boat 8; recreational boats, kayaks, e-bikes; U.S. Coast Guard, USCG Auxiliary, New York Sea Grant and Oswego Fire Department (OFD) exhibits; weather-permitting, in-water rescue demonstrations by OFD. Children's area with The Happy Pirates entertainment troupe, build a toy boat for Sailboat Sprint races on the pier (contact museum for free kit or make at the event), maritime t-shirt art. Free admission to H. Lee White Maritime Museum (HLWMM) & new Erie Canal Bicentennial exhibit; Great Lakes science, tourism, recreation, conservation, and NY Great Lakes Piping Plovers Recovery Program exhibits. Weather-permitting, boat rides to tour historic Oswego Lighthouse available 12:30-3:30 p.m. from Wright's Landing. Contact Museum at 315-342-0480 to reserve time and tickets: $20 per adult, $15 for ages 5-12, not recommended for younger than 5. More info: hlwmm.org.
