This is the time of year that we usually issue warnings about all the horrible things that can happen to your pets over the holidays.
If it's not poinsettias to worry about (which it’s not) then it's mistletoe, chocolate, grapes or tinsel (yes to all).
For added relief, people often go online to any reputable animal welfare site--we like the ASPCA--and read all those depressing and dire warnings. We're not saying you shouldn't read up about them, we’re just saying, let's have fun instead.
We compiled a list of 10 activities that are sure to put a smile on your, and your pet’s, face!
Here's how:
1. Buy your pets some holiday toys, or even make some yourself. You can never have too many toys.
2. Adopt a new pet for the holidays. It's probably not a great idea to bring a frisky kitten home the day before Christmas and plop her down in front of the tree. But you can adopt a grown-up cat a year or older from the Oswego County Humane Society for an adoption fee of only $25 from now until the end of December. She’ll have a home and you will have a better home.
3. Sign up to volunteer with your local Humane Society or shelter to help. It may not be walking the dogs, but it will definitely be worthwhile.
4. Donate! Money is great but so are supplies, food, toys, etc. Call to find out what they need.
5. Take your dogs for a walk in the winter snow or mud. No, it's not the same as a walk on the beach, but they're dogs. They don't care.
6. Go ahead, snuggle up on the couch with all of them.
7. Send everyone you know pictures of your beautiful furry kids and wish them Happy Holidays.
8. Find hilarious cat and dog videos on YouTube and post the link on Facebook. Here’s one we love. http://www.tastefullyoffensive.com/2014/11/golden-retriever-hilariously-fails-dog.html
9. Curl up on the couch with them again.
10. Kiss them on the lips!
To add to the fun festivities, the Faux Fur Ball is Jan. 31 at the American Foundry, 246 W. Seneca St. Great food will be provided as well as music by the Billionaires, dancing, raffles and a silent auction, all for the real fur balls of the Humane Society. Invitations will be out soon or you can buy tickets online at www.oswegohumane.org.
