Another Reason I Heart Oswego: Movie Theater

The Oswego Cinema 7 Theatre, which stands on West Second Street, is an iconic building in Oswego that has both sentimental and entertainment value for residents in the area.

As you walk through the door, nostalgia quickly sets in: the smell of popcorn, the chill of the air conditioner, the echoing sounds of days of our youth gone by. Kids hold hands and experience a first kiss, a first embrace.

One experience at the theater that stands out in my mind is on Halloween Day in 1990. I took a group of my soon-to-be sailors to the theater to see a remake of George Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead.” I loved it, the kids loved it, and it stands out in my mind as a wonderful night, in a wonderful town.

And would you believe it? I just got a message from one of my Navy kids who was there with me that night. He has since retired from the Navy, and was taking his grandson to see a movie at the Oswego Theater this week.

Some things never change.
