Another Reason iHeart Oswego: Diversity on Campus

America is known as a “melting pot,” but for the town of Oswego, diversity is hard to come by.

According to the United States Census Bureau in 2013, Oswego had a population of 121,165 and 94.6 percent of the people were Caucasian alone. Despite these demographics, SUNY Oswego offers a colorful array of people that can enrich the view on the world. SUNY Oswego is home to the Hart Hall Global Living & Learning Center, which is a building located at the center of campus. The building focuses its academics and social interactions on a global scale which brings together transfer students from all over the world.Eunni and I 1

During the years where I lived on campus I had the amazing opportunity of living in Hart Hall. I was able to meet amazing people who came from New York City, South Korea, Australia, and the list goes on. The people who became involved in my college life were able to share a special experience with me where we were able to discuss and exchange our ideas and opinions. I often talked to a dear friend from South Korea about custom differences. I have a lot of memories that I cherish from living in Hart Hall.

Another great offering of the Hart Hall Global Living & Learning Center is its hosting of the annual Global Awareness Conference. This event, which welcomes all students and faculty, provides information about different cultures and global issues. The events the dorm holds vary from belly dance performers to key note speakers, usually involved in serious global matters. The conference spans across a day and a half and the programs often leave you with a ton of food for thought.

I believe that globalization is a phenomenon that we cannot escape and I appreciate the fact that Hart Hall tries to embrace this concept

And that’s another reason iHeart Oswego.
