Every April Thursday evening there will be a program offered at the Oswego Public Library. The new Language Xchange nights start off at 6 PM on Thursday April 5th in our Community Room.

Gather with others and teach a few phrases in the language of your choice to everyone. English definitely counts! These hours are designed to be relaxed and as much about connecting with people as about learning a new language. Language Xchange will be at 6 PM the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month in our Community Room. Conversational. Comfy.

LEGO Club gathers upstairs in the Children’s Room on Thursday April 12th. Enjoy a time for kids to build and create with the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau. After the 6-7 PM LEGO Club, creations will be displayed in the Children’s Room until May 10th.

Reading Circle discusses Amor Towles’ A Gentleman in Moscow at 6:30 PM on Thursday April 26th. (If you want to get a quicker book fix, they will discuss The Radium Girls by Kate Moore on March 22nd.) A Gentleman in Moscow is a charming reminder of the gracious aristocratic attitude, equal parts urbane and humane. Mr. Towles shows class “has nothing to do with money; it’s predicated on the kind of moral discipline that never goes out of style.”

A visit from National Geographic’s 2012 Adventurer of the Year highlights our special programs for April. Jennifer Pharr Davis, holder of the fastest women’s supported time on the Appalachian Trail of 46 days 11 hours 20 minutes will be here Monday evening April 23. Jennifer has written two memoirs that cover her hikes, Becoming Odyssa and Called Again. She has a new book, The Pursuit of Endurance: Harnessing the Record-Breaking Power of Strength and Resilience, being published April 10th.

After a successful March watercolor paint night, part of the "learn to" series sponsored by the Friends of the Library and taught by Bob Jones, Oswego Public Library is hosting an afternoon flower paint with instructor Terry Carbone on Saturday April 14. There will be a $10 cost for canvas and materials and everyone will leave with a beautiful acrylic painting.
