For 29 years, the students from Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District’s student government have hosted a free Thanksgiving dinner in honor of the senior citizens in their community.

The students went above and beyond this year, coordinating a delicious menu, creating fun decorations and arranging entertainment by APW choral students for the evening.

For some seniors in student government, this was their fourth year volunteering. “It’s a great thing to do for our community,” said APW senior Becky Cronk. “These people raised our parents, so it’s only right to give something back.”

The menu featured spiced apple sauce, turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, squash, corn, rolls and beverages. Homemade desserts were brought in by APW seniors, the National Honor Society as well as APW student government.

Guests were greeted with a flute ensemble as they waited in line, featuring Band Teacher Janet Fiacco and four of her students: Alyssa Hamilton, Kaitlin Morey, CarleyAnn Sackett and Kassidy Spoon.

Before the doors were opened, student government advisor Beth Dunham told the student servers that the goal of the evening was to “smile a lot and have fun with the guests.”

The event would not have been possible without help from the entire district, including staff who generously donated raffle prizes. Even the thanksgiving-themed placemats were hand-drawn by APW Elementary students in art class.

The District and the APW Student Government would like to thank the following community businesses who supported the dinner: A Cut Above (Pulaski), Advance Auto Parts (Pulaski), Advance Auto Parts (Central Square), Altmar Hotel & Altmar Union Station, American Legion Fuller Taylor (Central Square), American Legion Post #1128 (Williamstown), APW Faculty Association, Avicolli’s Restaurant, Burdick Ford (Central Square), Byrne Dairy (Syracuse), Carpenter’s Paint & Hardware (Camden), China Moon, Chirag D Corp.
