CNY Rotary Area 5 representative Patrick Waite was a recent guest at the luncheon meeting of the Oswego Rotary Club held at Bishop’s Commons.
Club president Sabine Ingerson introduced Waite who is a member of the Fulton Sunrise Rotary Club and was involved in the recent consolidation of two Rotary districts into the new CNY Rotary. Area 5 includes six clubs in Oswego, Fulton, Cato and Baldwinsville.
Waite’s mission at the meeting was to explain the organizational changes and how they will affect the work of Rotary in local communities and across Central New York. The leader of the new district, Lizzy Martin of the Baldwinsville club, is president rather than governor as previously. Since the expanded district now includes 113 clubs and 2,800 members distributed over 22 areas the president will not be able to make official visits to each club in a year, so Waite presented a video message from the president.
CNY Rotary is getting organized to support its work in Central New York by establishing several committees: service, events, membership, public image, diversity, equity and inclusion, and youth programs. However, the guiding principles of Rotary have not changed, expressed in The Four Way Test, “Of the things we think, say or do, is it the truth, is it fair to all concerned, will it build good will and better friendships, will it be beneficial to all concerned?”
Anyone interested in becoming a Rotarian or to learn more about Rotary’s humanitarian work around the world and in the Oswego community is invited to attend a meeting of the Oswego Rotary Club any Tuesday at noon at Bishop’s Commons.
