It’s hard to believe, but August is right around the corner!
If you haven’t been out to the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center yet this summer, the educators hope you will join them for one of the guided programs coming up in August. If not, the trails are open from dawn to dusk, 365 days of the year. There is no parking fee and there is a map of the trails when you arrive. The best way to learn about ecology is to be out in it!
Did you miss the Stream Safari program in July? No worries - it will be offered again in August! On Saturday, August 5th at 10:00 a.m., join the environmental educator and become a scientist for the day. Learn about macroinvertebrates and other small animals that live in Rowell Brook by catching them with nets and cups. Everyone will have the opportunity to get their hands and feet wet using the Center’s equipment to catch crayfish, dragonfly nymphs, and so much more. It is recommended to wear shoes or boots that can get wet and bring insect repellant.
Butterflies, bees, moths, and birds are to thank for the majority of the foods we eat, as well as for the trees and flowers we get to enjoy every day! These pollinators do a lot for us, but what can we do for them? Stop into the Center on Monday, August 21st at 10:00 a.m. for the Native Pollinator Gardens program to learn more about these pollinating professionals and what native plants you can grow at home to support these important species.
These programs are designed for nature lovers of all ages; anyone from individuals to families are encouraged to attend! All youth must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program. The fee for these programs is only $4 per person, or $12 for a family. Children under the age of three are free!
Preregistration is requested. For more information and to register, visit http://thatscooperativeextension.org/events.
