
Barbara Ann Savas, 75, of Oswego, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at the Oswego Hospital with her daughter and son-in-law by her side.
Born September 20th, 1940 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Peter and Beatrice Soumakis, she resided in Bronxville, N.Y., during her early years. On December 7, 1975 She married George P. Savas (who predeceased her in 2005) and they lived for a number of years in Miami, Florida before relocating to George’s hometown of Oswego.
Most recently Barbara had worked for the Youth Advocacy Program and was a polling assistant for the Oswego County Board of Elections. The last two years she had been slowed by a number of medical issues, which limited her from engaging in her favorite past time which was being out and about, interacting with anyone she encountered.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Nicole (Thomas) Nicholson and newborn grandson, Thomas Woodrow Nicholson; she is also survived by her beloved sister Theodora “Teddi” Canaras of New Windsor, N.Y.; niece, Stacy (Brian) Moran of Woodbridge, CT; nephews, Michael (Debra) Canaras of Milton, GA; and John Canaras of Old Bridge, N.J.; several cousins and local extended family members including Nina Sideris, Connie, Marsha and Cindy Sideris and Homer and Joan Savas.
The family would like to thank all her friends who kept her active with Monday Night bingo, card and bunko parties, casino bus trips, Turning Stone music and comedy performances. You were the best medicine she received and always what kept her looking forward to your next meetings together.

Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Resurrection, 120 West Fifth St. Oswego. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany St. Oswego.
