Bernice M. Sabin, 92, and a resident of Route 104 West (Perry Hill) in the Town of Oswego, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at St. Luke Health Services.
She was born in Norfolk, NY on November 7, 1924, the daughter of the late Stewart and Mable Bandy Henderson
Mrs. Sabin graduated from Potsdam High School, and shortly thereafter she moved to Oswego and was hired as a bookkeeper at the GLF (Agway). It was there she met Patricia Churchill Persley. They formed a friendship that led Pat's mother Wava to invite Bernice to live with their family until her marriage to the love of her life, Charles Sabin III, in 1947. It was Pat who introduced "Bernie" to "Chuck".
After their marriage, they operated the Larchmont Dairy Farm on Perry Hill.
She worked in a variety of bookkeeping positions, and retired from SUNY at Oswego Vocational Education Department as a Research Assistant. She was a member of West Baptist Church where she served as church school superintendent, church treasurer, and on the Board of Deaconesses. She was also the secretary/treasurer of the Fairdale Cemetery, and a member of the Star of Huldah Chapter O.E.S. Hannibal, NY.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles on September 17, 2016.
She is survived by her son C. Albert Sabin IV (Victoria) of Marcellus; her daughter, Judith Sabin Watson of Oswego; her grandson, Christopher Watson (Jaime) of Clifton Park; her granddaughter, Meara Sabin (Jeffrey Allen) of Moravia; her great-grandchildren, Grady Charles Allen, Jenna Marie Watson, and Charles William Watson; and her sisters, Lindy Wardell of Boiling Springs, Pa., and Barbara Coughlin Watertown, NY.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the wonderful care and support that was provided to Mrs. Sabin by the staff at St. Luke's Health Services, especially the third floor staff.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, September 20th, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 Saturday, prior to the service, at the funeral home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego
