Betty K. Jaekle, 94 and a resident of Oswego passed away Thursday evening in the Oswego Hospital.

She was born on the Town of Oswego and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Isabelle Knopp Smegelsky.

Mrs. Jaekle was the widow of the late John J. Jaekle.

Mrs. Jaekle was educated in Oswego Schools and was a graduate of the Edward J. Meyer Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

She had worked in in the maternity department at the Oswego Hospital for 35 years and served many years as charge nurse. She retired on January 1, 1985.

Mrs. Jaekle had served as president of the Catholic Nurses of America in New York State.

She was a lifetime communicant of St. Mary’s Church.

Surviving is one daughter Janet M. Rossiter-Matthews and her husband Patrick Matthews of Oswego, three grandchildren, Scott L. Rossiter and his wife Trisha, Jody J. Rossiter and his wife Jennifer, Heather Rossiter Woolson and her husband Michael Woolson, eight great grandchildren, Caitlen Rossiter, Aden Renfer, Madilyn Rossiter, Anabelle Rossiter, Kellan Rossiter, Alisha Rossiter, Hunter Woolson and Baby Woolson.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph Smegelsky, Harold Smegelsky, John Smegelsky, Charles Smegelsky, a close friend Richard Schuler and her first son in-law Kurt Rossitier.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday November, November 23, in St. Mary’s Church at 11:00AM. Private burial services will take place in St. Peter’s cemetery at a later date.
