Bishop’s Commons Residents Enjoy Oswego County New Horizons Band Performance

Residents at Bishop’s Commons Enriched Housing Residence enjoyed a wonderful performance when the forty-plus members of the Oswego County New Horizons Band visited. Members of the band (pictured), performed a wide variety of musical numbers from marches by John Phillips Sousa to more contemporary selections from artists like Van Morrison.

The Oswego New Horizons Band and Chorus began in the late 1990s as the Oswego New Horizons Band. In October 2008 the chorus was added, and in November 2009 the organization officially became the Oswego County New Horizons Band and Chorus (OCNHB&C). The OCNHB&C draws members from across Oswego County and several from neighboring Cayuga and Onondaga Counties.

Instrumentalists are seniors 50 years of age or older. Some members have performed throughout their lives, but most were musicians in their youth who put their musical pursuits aside to work and raise families. Others have taken up an instrument for the first time or an instrument new to them. The 44-member band, which includes strings, and 45-member chorus perform independently and jointly at various area events and adult care facilities.

Enriched Housing at Bishop's Commons provides a unique combination of housing, support services and personal assistance in a community featuring home-like apartments, where seniors know there is trained staff available 24 hours a day, seven days a week when they need assistance. Conveniently located on a wooded scenic hillside, overlooking the Oswego River and just minutes from downtown Oswego making it easy for residents to visit friends, family, businesses and medical offices.
