Residents, staff, family and friends at Bishop’s Commons Enriched Living Residence in Oswego are teaming up to support The Alzheimer’s Association and its Longest Day initiative.
Beginning June 20 and lasting 16 hours from sun-up to sunset, the Bishop’s Commons team will participate in a variety of activities ranging from walking, dancing to reading a favorite book, all taking place continuously in an effort to raise both funds and awareness on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association.
“The Longest Day event here at Bishop’s Commons will be our way of mixing fun and entertainment together while lending support to the Alzheimer’s Association and the battle against the disease,” Cheryl Cullinan, Bishop’s Commons director of activities, said. “Residents, staff family and friends will participate in activities that exercise body, mind and spirit from sun-up to sunset. We are asking anyone who would like to support our team to visit the Alzheimer’s Association The Longest Day website at act.alz.org and make a donation.”
Today, over 35 million people across the world are living with Alzheimer's, including more than 5 million Americans. In the United States alone, more than 15 million caregivers generously dedicate themselves to those with Alzheimer's and dementia. And these numbers will only continue to rise unless we take action.
The Longest Day event will see teams from around the world come together to honor the strength, passion and endurance of those facing Alzheimer's with a day devoted to activity. Held on the summer solstice, this event calls on participants to raise funds and awareness to advance the efforts of the Alzheimer's Association.
