Write a commentThe Oswego City Concert Band and Jazz Band concert schedule has been announced for this summer.
An Oswego tradition for almost 80 years, these free Wednesday night concerts overlook beautiful Lake Ontario, while providing an enjoyable evening for the young and young at heart.
The concert band, under the direction of Trevor Jorgensen, will be performing on June 25, July 2, July 16, Aug. 6 and Aug. 13. The band performs traditional marches, overtures, and other classic band literature, along with music from Broadway musicals and film.
The Jazz Band, under the direction of Stan Gosek, will take the stage on June 9, June 30 and Aug. 20. These concerts feature the music of the greatest "Big Bands" of the 30s, 40s and 50s, including Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glen Miller and Benny Goodman, along with contemporary groups such as Maynard Ferguson and others.
All concerts are at Breitbeck Park and begin at 7:30 p.m., except the August dates, which will begin at 7:00 p.m. Concert goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket.
The concerts are sponsored by the City of Oswego, with additional funding provided by the Music Performance Trust Fund and Oswego County Musicians Union, local 267-441.
