Patience at the plate led Burke's to a 6-2 victory over Knights of Columbus in recent Oswego Little League Triple A baseball action.
The game shaped up to be a pitching duel between K of C's Cole Pratt and Burke's Ben Hoefer. Pratt struck out six of the first eight batters he faced before giving up a fielder's choice RBI to Carter Jock. Hoefer stifled the K of C's batters through three innings. He fanned five and walked one.
Hoefer also got help from fine defensive plays behind him by Joey Delconte, Mark Jones, and Jason Purtell to hold the score at 1-0 for Burke's through three innings.
Pratt struck out the side in the fourth inning before relief pitcher Megan Albright took over the mound for K of C.
Burke's Jones, in relief of Hoefer, struck out the side in the top of the fourth.
K of C got things going in the bottom of the fourth inning with singles by Ben Hough and Owen Warner. Hough scored on a fielder's choice RBI by Pratt.
Further damage was avoided thanks to key defensive plays by Logan Tharrett and Purtell.
Burke's threatened in the fifth when Max Fischer walked and Jones singled, but two strikeouts and a good defensive play quelled the rally.
The score was 1-1 entering the sixth inning.
In the top of the sixth, Burke's tallied five runs thanks to several walks.
K of C attempted a comeback in the bottom half of the sixth inning, and plated a run thanks to walks and a single by Darwin Warner.
However, Burke's pitcher Robbie Allen closed things out by striking out the side.
