Stephen Douglas Wolfe
Stephen spent two years on the road with his band Getaway Driver in the early 2000’s out of Lawrence, Kansas. Following the dissolution of his band, he began to play solo shows in and around Lawrence. Tapping the influences of some of his musical idols, including George Harrison, Bob Dylan, and Elliott Smith, and local heroes Danny Pound and Andrew Connor, Stephen built a repertoire of solo material.
His next album, “Except for the Birds”, involving Jake Cardwell, Nathan Harold, and Sara MacManus, is more of an anthology than a moment in time, as it combines songs that were written during Wolfe’s days with Getaway Driver. In recent years, Wolfe has re-thought his approach to songwriting, tapping into much more personal and reflective themes than the allegorical and fictional approach of his past work. Now living in Syracuse with his wife, Catherine, Wolfe is working to release some of his most intimate music to date, beginning with the forthcoming single, “We’ll Live”.
