Employees from Rich Burritt Motors recently assisted with maintenance needs and landscaping for the Victory Transformation Center, (VTC) locations at 24 E. Oneida St and 91 E. 4th St., Oswego, as part of the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s Day of Caring.
“VTC is a ministry that helps get people on their feet,” said Mary Curcio, VTC interim executive director. “We provide housing for homeless men and help community members with housing needs, job skills, education skills, health needs, and more. We are extremely grateful to Rich Burritt, his employees, and the United Way for their sweat equity and help in improving our facility.”
According to Patrick Dewine, executive director, United Way of Greater Oswego County, the Day of Caring has been a United Way Worldwide initiative for many years. “Rich Burritt has been working with us since 2016 to identify places he and his employees can help each year as part of this program,” Dewine said. “ Rich is passionate about giving back to the community and he believed this was a good avenue to follow. He emphasized in our discussions that as bad as some people think their situation is, others have it worse. He and his team have been treasured partners in caring since then.”
According to Dewine, past Burritt caring projects have included work at Oswego County Opportunities adult living homes in Minetto and Oswego, Trinity Catholic School in Oswego, churches in Oswego and Fulton, ten homes of seniors in the Oswego area that needed “sprucing up,” the Community Garden in Oswego, the Child Advocacy Center in Fulton, mobile raised garden beds for Catholic Charities of Oswego County, and the Oswego YMCA.
“We also recruited volunteers from other companies to help with these projects,” Dewine said. Among these were Novelis, Fidelis Care, Sheriff Cadets, and the Lake City Police Club. “Ultimately, Rich hoped that other companies would take notice and either join these projects or create their own Day of Caring projects.”
