Write a commentUnited Way of Greater Oswego County will hold the 18th Annual Stone Soup Luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the Oswego Elks Lodge, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
This event would not be possible without the continued support of area businesses who willingly donate food items that make up the luncheon menu. For many years, Dave and Maria Johnson, owners of C’s Farm Market in Oswego have graciously donated ingredient for salad at every Stone Soup Luncheon in Oswego, Fulton and Pulaski.
“We are very grateful to DJ and Maria for supporting this initiative of shining a light on hunger in our community”, said Helen Hoefer, Stone Soup Committee chair. “DJ and Maria’s continuous contributions have helped raise thousands of dollars in funds and food collected over the years, and we consider him a valuable community partner”, added Hoefer.
The Stone Soup Luncheon began as a social event to bring together individuals, agencies, and businesses in an effort to increase awareness around hunger in Oswego County. Over the years it has transformed into a fundraiser and food drive that local agencies rely on. All profits and non-perishable food donations from the event will be divided between local pantries that provide food for food insecure individuals and families.
The menu for United Way’s Stone Soup Luncheon will feature several varieties of soups donated by local restaurants, along with salad, rolls, beverages, and dessert from area businesses.
United Way invites the community to attend for good food, fun and fellowship and will be accepting a donation of $5 per person. Attendees are urged to bring a donation of nonperishable food items, as well.
