Captain 'Cuse, or better yet, his creator Joe Orsak, descended upon the City of Oswego's The Comic Shop yesterday for Free Comic Book Day.

Orsak brought prints and pencil drawings of some of his original artwork, including that of Captain 'Cuse battling Orsak's first villain, Lake Effect. Orsak has become a local legend in the area since his creation of Captain 'Cuse in 1982.

Mr. Orsak was also joined by fellow author Aaron Z. Lee, who teaches art at the Oswego Middle School as well as producing his own comics featuring Wesley the Robot. Cayetano Valenzuela, another author from Syracuse-based publishing company, Ahoy Comics, was also in attendance, bringing the three local greats to the store for a meet-and-greet kind of affair.

Evan Coy, owner of The Comic Shop, put together an awesome day in celebration of National Free Comic Book Day. With free pizza, authors, and of course, over 80 different free comics to choose from. Games were also available.

The shop had sidewalk set-ups overflowing so customers weren't crowded into the shop all at once.

Owner Evan Coy has a Magic Trading Card Game, Commander, played at the store on Saturdays at noon. Coy, with some of his peers, has also set up a comic book drawing class, at the Oswego Public Library on July 13, 20, and 27, for those interested in learning the skill.

To see other great comic artists and authors from the region, check out the One-Day Syra Con 2024 on June 15 at the Comfort Suites in Cicero.

For more information about events by The Comic Shop, stop into the shop on Bridge Street, Oswego, where the amazing staff is always ready for your questions.
