Write a commentOn Saturday, May 30, 2015, at 1:30 pm, the H. Lee White Maritime Museum presents the second installment of their History Lecture Series. George DeMass returns to share his experiences among Native Americans with particular reference to the Carlisle Indian School, in Carlisle, Pa.
The school changed the face of government-church relations with Native Americans, and Mr. DeMass will discuss how the school's legacy still has both positive and negative aspects. Hearing his story lends much to our shared understanding of Native American contributions to the United States.
The Maritime Museum features several pieces of Native American heritage including two dugout and one birch-bark canoes. In addition, several pieces by nationally renowned artists George Gray, Frank Kraft and Michael J. Duguay depicting myriad elements of local Native maritime history and culture are on display.
