Catherine Ann (Kay) Hersog Denny, 85, of Oswego, passed away on September 2, 2016 at James Square Nursing Facility in Syracuse after a long illness.
Daughter of Wallace and Anna Murphy Hersog, Kay was a lifelong resident of Oswego. She was married to her loving husband, John H. Denny, for 63 years, until his death in 2012.
Kay attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and graduated from Oswego High School in 1948. She worked as a clerk in Penfield Library at SUNY Oswego before her retirement in 1987. Much of her time prior to her illness was spent with family and friends. Her sense of humor and welcoming manner invited those into her home for fun and laughter. Although home life, family relationships and friendship were important, she found time to volunteer at Oswego Hospital, St. Luke’s Nursing Facility, the Knights of Columbus and the Oswego Columbiettes.
Kay is survived by her devoted children: John (Denise) Denny, Jessica (Howard) Ormsby, Joseph (Anne) Denny, and Jean Scardella (Carl); seven loving grandchildren: Sean Ormsby, Susan (Ryan) McMahon, Thomas Scardella, Christopher (Ariel) Denny, Kathleen (Michael) Rey, Brian Scardella, and Lisa (Jonathon) Nemargut; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home in Oswego with calling hours on Tuesday, September 6th from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on September 7th at St. Mary’s Church, Oswego where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, a volunteer at the parish office, and worked at the church bazaar.
