Catholic Charities of Oswego County, (CCOC), recently closed its CYO facilities because of diminishing youth participation and the financial drain on operating costs attempting to keep it open, said Mary-Margaret Pekow, CCOC executive director.
"The activities offered by the CYO have been a beloved staple for generations and it is with great regret that we have been forced to close," Pekow said. "The numbers of youth who have participated have sharply dropped off in the past few years, and we can no longer sustain offering the services without running a deeper deficit. The program has been operating at a deficit for several years and the cost of staffing, overhead, and low numbers led us and our board to make this hard decision.
