The National Wildlife Federation celebrates the funeral home's efforts to create a garden space that improves all aspects of life for birds, bees, butterflies, and other wildlife.
Naturalist David Mizejewski believes that "providing a home for wildlife in our communities is the demonstration of a healthy and active eco-system. There is no more rewarding way to stay connected to nature right outside your door."
The purpose of the funeral home's new garden area is to provide a comforting and relaxed atmosphere outside, to match the ambience that the totally new interior provides to the public.
In addition, the Dowdles are well aware of habitat loss over the past several years. Of special concern is the plight of the bees and butterflies whose problems have been well documented.
Although privacy laws of the N.W.F. do not allow for membership roles to be available to the public, it is highly possible that very few, if any, other funeral homes in the U.S. have been so designated.
Our garden is in honor of our founders, Bud and Marg Dowdle, and has been established through the kind financial support of their granddaughter, Alexis Dowdle. We have also, dedicated the Alexis' Garden to all the families that we have been privileged to serve for over 60 years.
The Dowdle Funeral Home is committed to its garden's continuous development to enhance a lifestyle statement which will be beneficial to all.
