Digital Media students from the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation's Career and Technology Education program recently designed a new logo for the Weston T. Hyde Oswego County Educational Foundation of Oswego, NY.

The CiTi students worked in groups to develop several logos for the board members of the Weston T. Hyde Educational Foundation to choose from. Each group worked as a team to utilize their career skills learned in Digital Media and their knowledge of the customer's needs to create a logo. The work was done in popular design software, Adobe Illustrator.

Kathy Fenlon and Mike Egan from the Weston T. Hyde Educational Foundation visited the digital media classroom recently to discuss their Board’s thoughts on each logo and to provide feedback to the students of their work. CiTi Digital Media Teacher Jon Miller said that receiving criticism for your work is one of the hardest things to do in the field of graphic design, and he stressed that the goal of the job is to make sure the customer is satisfied with the look.

Even the logo that was selected, created by team members Daniel Aiken, Nickolas Lynn, Eliza French, Abigail Bonanno, James Manchester and Brandon Ingersoll, would undergo changes and improvements based on the feedback received, which Miller said is very normal practice in this line of work.

The Weston T. Hyde Educational Foundation will be utilizing the finished logo product as soon as it is complete, hoping it will complement their new website that is in the works. According to the organization’s website, the mission of Weston T. Hyde, “is to create new and enhance existing educational opportunities for Oswego County residents; to secure funding sources not currently available to BOCES and School Districts; and to build partnerships through incentives.”
