CiTi Library Open House Shows Off New Space

While students at the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation have utilized the organization’s expanded library for a couple of months, an open house was recently held to show staff members how much more enjoyable the library experience is now.

Librarian Tammy Cummings said the library tripled in size when it relocated from a small class space in the main building to an adjacent building. Traditional and flexible seating has permitted students in CiTi’s exceptional, alternative and career and technical education programs to choose a comfortable spot to study, research or unwind anytime throughout the day, either individually, with their classmates or during their lunch period, so long as they obtain a library pass. Staff are welcome, too.

“(They) plop down and make themselves at home,” Cummings said. “They’re asking questions too and getting help.”

Cummings said the added space is important to accommodate students in both the half-day and full-day programs on campus.

The new digs also offer a variety of books, laptop and iPad work stations, a self-checkout for books, a developing MakerSpace area, a space for small-group instruction, robotic materials, a green screen and 3-D printers to help meet their academic goals. Bright and inviting, the library now attracts quadruple the number of students each day.
